Summer Farm to Table Dinner - $50 donation

Please join us for our first farm to table dinner. Moon Valley community members Sarah and Nate Greenwood will be preparing a multi course, scratch made feast based on farm fresh produce and other local delectables for your enjoyment. Complimentary cider pairings from Millstone Cellars will accompany each course. Reservations are required.

Fall Farm to Table Dinner - $75 donation

You are invited to an intimate dining experience at the Moon Valley Farm house. We'll enjoy a gourmet meal prepared by Chefs Michael Dausch and Annette Ryan featuring hand crafted specialties showcasing the bounty of the farm. Complimentary local wine pairings from Basignani Vineyard will be provided for each portion of the evening, beginning with the sundown farm tour through to the night's final course. Reservations required, and space is limited. A portion of the night's proceeds will go to support Chef Annette's Everybody Eats DC non profit community cafe.

2013 Fall Harvest Festival

Come help us celebrate Fall and the conclusion of a successful CSA season! We'll have food, live music, games, vendors, workshops and more! Family friendly and fun for all ages, this is a terrific opportunity to visit the farm, meet lots of wonderful folks and enjoy the last of the season's harvest.

Miso Making Class - $35

Join us for a very special afternoon with chef Annette Ryan. You will learn how to make miso using a traditional koji culture and adzuki or garbanzo beans. This rich living condiment is an important component of Asian cuisines and an excellent addition to your diet.
Class fee includes all necessary supplies and instructions, and you will take home a half gallon of organic miso which will age for about a year before it's ready to use. The class is limited to 10 participants.

Herbalism 101 Class

Free Class - Herbalist Annie Murphey will be presenting a primer on household herbalism at Moon Valley Farm. This class will include an introduction to herbal remedies and details about seasonal, helpful herbs available in our area. We hope that this class will be the first of many on this subject, as we learn how to fully take advantage of the growing farmacy around us.

Honeybee Campaign Party

Please join us to celebrate the end of the first stage of our 2014 Honeybee Campaign. We'll be watching the documentary Queen of the Sun and serving up tasty snacks. All are welcome to come and enjoy, but we ask that you donate what you can towards our initial goal of $1000 for honeybee stewardship. We'll have gorgeous hand made honeybee prints and other gifts for folks who donate.

Seed Starting Class
Sunday March 2nd, 2:00 - 5:00 PM
Free class - Learn how to start plants from seed under grow lights. This class will introduce you to in door seed starting systems using grow lights and heat mats. Improve on your current seed starting system and make stronger, healthier seedlings. We'll cover the basics including plant variety selection, the importance of timing, different lights to use, what growing medium to use and how much to water.

Preserved Citrus Class with Chef Annette Ryan
Saturday March 8th, 2:30 - 5:00 PM - $25, RSVP please
Come take a class to learn how to preserve citrus! Preserved citrus adds a great burst of flavor to sauces, vinaigrette's, pasta dishes, mixed drinks and vegetables. The class will use oranges and lemons along with sea salt and a range of assorted spices; from peppercorns to ginger, coriander to lemongrass. Each participant will make 2 jars of his or her own preserved citrus ready for use in 1-6 months. These make great hostess gifts and are beautiful to the eye, and a bright delight on the tongue. An optional lunch (by donation) will feature examples of preserved citrus in a plant-based meal. Class fee will cover necessary materials, as well as a donation for Chef Annette's Everybody Eats DC non profit.

Herbalism 101 - Alteratives and Blood Cleansers
Sunday April 13th, 12:00 - 4:00 PM, $35 RSVP required
Herbalist Annie Murphy will be your guide on a wildcrafting tour of Moon Valley Farm.
This will be a four hour class. The first hour and 45 minutes will be dedicated to a lecture on alterative herbs and how they effect us. We will be looking specifically at dandelion, yellow dock, and burdock. After a 15 minute break, we’ll reconvene for our two hour workshop portion of the class.
For the workshop, we will be wildcrafting dandelion and making dandelion tincture together as a class. We will also learn how to process the roots for tea and decoctions. All participants will take home a jar of dandelion tincture.

Salvage and Clothing Swap
Sunday April 27th, 1:00 - 5:00 PM
Bring your "trashures" to swap with others. Things you don't want anymore but are sure could be someone else's treasures. Examples of things to bring (and their potential uses): plastic bags for weaving, rubber bands for cat toys, bottles for homebrewing, milk & egg cartons, and clothes!

CSA Member Meet and Greet Potluck
Sunday May 4th, 12:30 - 3:00 PM
In the spirit of community building, we're going to kick off our 2014 CSA season with a member meet and greet potluck. Bring a dish or drink to share, including ingredient list for those with allergies, specific diets and culinary curiosities.

Dairy Free Milks, Dressings & Sauces

This hands on class will introduce students to the world of dairy free creams, milks, dressings and sauces. More details to be announced shortly.

Keeping Produce Fresh Class - Spring

Free class - Do you know how to keep your produce the freshest, the longest? Does produce go bad in your fridge, or on your counter, faster than you think it should? If you want to know how the professionals keep produce looking best for longest, and want to make the most of your produce - whether from your garden, the CSA, farmers market or grocery store - then come to our free class! Taught by Tim Maschok, a produce expert from MOMs grocery store.

Late Spring Farm House Dinner
Saturday June 28th
Join us for our first farm house dinner of 2014. Chefs Michael Dausch and Annette Ryan will be preparing seasonal specialties for your enjoyment from the bounty of the Moon Valley gardens. RSVP required, seating will be limited. Menu and more info to come.

Summer Solstice Potluck, Fire Craft Class and Bonfire
Saturday June 21st, 6:00 - 9:00 PM
Come help us celebrate the longest day of the year with a potluck, secret solstice DIY gift exchange, scavenger hunt and sun-down bon fire. Bring a dish or drink to share (with ingredient list). To participate in the gift exchange, please email us by June 7th and let us know that you would like to be included. If you play an instrument, feel free to bring it to help us sing songs around the fire that night.
RSVP encouraged.
Join wilderness skills practionor Eric Kelly for a fire craft class around the bonfire site from 5 - 7 (suggested donation $5 - $10). You'll learn about the craft of fire building, collect fire materials, and help start our solstice bonfire using wild materials found at hand on the farm. Learn how to make char cloth and travel with a spark. This will be a seriously back to basics educational experience!

Fall Festival - $10 suggested donation per carload

Join us in celebrating the end of the 2014 growing season at our annual fall harvest festival. We'll have live music, food, games for all ages and local artists and artisans vending their wares. Farm tours will be offered at 1:00 and 4:00, and our vegan chili cook-off happens at 2:00. Herbalist Annie Murphy will lead a Fire Cider workshop, and the Moon Valley Crew will run fun events and activities throughout the day.
This is our opportunity to express thanks for the season behind us, and look forward to the season ahead - and we want YOU to be a part of it! No RSVP required, but please car pool as we expect a great turn out for this event. We're asking for a $10 donation per carload, or $5 per individual to help cover the costs of the event.
