Welcome to Moon Valley Farm

In order for us to gain a proper understanding of agriculture, we need to develop a biologically oriented thinking that sees our agricultural efforts as participatory rather than as antagonistic vis-a-vis the natural world. - Elliot Coleman, The New Organic Grower
Moon Valley Farm is a small family-farm that raises organically-grown vegetables, herbs, and native fruits. We provide our community with extremely fresh, nutrient-rich produce through a community-supported agriculture (CSA) program, and by selling directly to individuals and restaurants.
We are committed to small scale agriculture based around hand tools and human power, recycled and upcycled materials and supplies, and ecologically sound farming practices. By keeping these commitments central to our practice we have been able to expand sustainably as a business and community through each of our growing seasons.
Additionally, we extend our support of local food access and self-reliance by offering free and inexpensive classes on everything from gardening basics, to food preservation and advanced production techniques. See the events page for more details.

Why we farm.
We believe that small-scale, community-based agriculture is a good answer to many problems our society faces. By providing healthy local food sources, and catering to our communities, small farms such as ours encourage the local economy, add healthy habitats for wildlife, and provide fresh, nutritious and delicious food to our neighbors.
By operating within the urban fringe we are afforded the opportunity to meet the food needs of our community members at the same time that we provide fresh, high quality produce to gourmet restaurants in nearby Baltimore City.
Our business model, and proximity to our CSA members and customers allows us to limit energy used for transportation and storage, while at the same time providing produce picked and sold at the peak of freshness.
How we farm.
Our organic and biological farming practices include cover crops, crop rotation, compost, low-tech inputs, attracting beneficials, living mulches, crop diversity and crop timing.
We believe in preventing disease and pest infestations through careful and extensive crop rotation plans and by cultivating healthy and rich soils. We use row covers to exclude pests when necessary, to avoid the need to spray.
Organic and sustainable methods are more than marketing for us - our family is growing up on this farm and we want to make sure that they are safe and healthy and that our farming methods protect and enhance our ecosystem.
